Over forty-five farmers leaders and value chain managers attended and participated in the recently held Caribbean Regional Training Course in Agribusiness Management of Farmers Organisation. The training course was held in Saint Lucia from July 26-30th, 2010 at the Bay Gardens Inn Conference room. Participants were represented from eleven Caribbean Countries including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and host country Saint Lucia.
The Training sessions were very intensive with a combination of theory and practice. On Wednesday July 28th, participants got the opportunity to explore the Value Chain in St. Lucia and had discussions with the Hotel, Supermarkets and local Farmers Organisations. At the end of the five days training, participants rated the training and overall success which met their initial expectations. They pledged their commitment to use the tools and knowledge acquired to strengthen their organisations capacities in agribusiness management.
The training course was a collaboration between the Caribbean Farmers Network (CaFAN) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) under the European Union All African Caribbean and Pacific Agricultural Commodities Programme (EU AAACP) and the Italy Funded "Promoting CARICOM/CARIFORUM Food Security Project (GTFS/RLA/141/ITA).
